Journey Overview
Tanzania's northern circuit follows a geographic logic that hasn't changed. Arusha to Tarangire, then up to the Ngorongoro highlands, then west into the Serengeti. Each park is distinct. Each rewards different amounts of time. This seven-day journey follows that sequence without shortcut — two nights in Tarangire, one night on the crater rim, a full day on the crater floor, then three nights in the Serengeti. It is the most coherent introduction to Tanzania wildlife available and works in any month.

Itinerary
Arrival — Arusha
Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport. Your guide meets you on arrival and transfers you to your lodge. Evening briefing on the days ahead.
Arusha to Tarangire
Tarangire National Park
A two-hour drive south-west brings you to Tarangire's main gate. Enter in the morning and spend the afternoon on game drives. The Tarangire River corridor in the dry season holds elephant in concentrations — herds of fifty or more are not unusual. The baobab woodland holds giraffe, zebra, and resident predators.
Full Day — Tarangire
Tarangire National Park
Morning and afternoon game drives. The southern sections toward Silale Swamp see fewer vehicles and produce strong leopard and wild dog sightings in season. The birding in Tarangire is exceptional throughout — 550+ recorded species, with rollers, hornbills, and large raptors visible from the vehicle.
Tarangire to Ngorongoro Highlands
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Drive north-west through the rift escarpment into the Ngorongoro highlands. The air changes at altitude — cooler and clearer. Arrive at a crater rim lodge in the early afternoon. The view into the caldera from the rim on a clear evening is one of the better introductions to what follows.
Full Day — Ngorongoro Crater
Early descent before 8am. The floor sits 600m below the rim, enclosing roughly 260 square kilometres of open grassland and soda lake. Resident populations include lion prides, black rhino, hippo pools, and flamingo. Full day on the floor with a packed picnic. Return to the rim before sunset.
Ngorongoro to Central Serengeti
Drive west through the NCA lowlands and enter the Serengeti through the Naabi Hill gate. The landscape opens onto short-grass plains. Optional Olduvai Gorge stop adds 30 minutes. Arrive Seronera area for an afternoon game drive.
Full Day — Central Serengeti
A full day in the central Serengeti. The Seronera Valley holds the highest year-round game density in the park — permanent water, resident lion prides, hippo pools at Retima, reliable cheetah, and leopard in the riverine fig trees. Morning and afternoon drives. Fly-out from Seronera airstrip strongly recommended over road return.
