Lake Manyara & Ngorongoro Short Journey
Discover Lake Manyara & Ngorongoro Short Journey with Zorani Expeditions.
Journey Overview
Not every Tanzania journey needs to reach the Serengeti. This six-day circuit focuses on two parks within comfortable reach of Arusha — Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater — and delivers a complete wildlife experience without long drives or multiple camp changes. Works well as a first trip, a short-break addition to an existing East Africa journey, or for travellers who want to see the crater properly without a rushed schedule.

Itinerary
Arrival — Arusha
Arrive Kilimanjaro International. Transfer to Arusha area lodge. Overnight.
Arusha to Lake Manyara
Lake Manyara National Park
Drive approximately 130km from Arusha to Lake Manyara — roughly two hours on tarmac. Afternoon game drive. The park follows a narrow strip between the rift wall and the lake. Groundwater forest holds baboon and blue monkey; acacia woodland holds Manyara's large elephant population. Lakeshore section for flamingo and waterbirds.
Full Day — Lake Manyara
Lake Manyara National Park
Full day in the park. Morning focused on the tree-climbing lion prides. Afternoon along the floodplain and hippo pool. The birding is exceptional — carmine bee-eaters, stork breeding colonies, and numerous raptors.
Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro Highlands
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Drive to the Ngorongoro rim. The road climbs steadily from the rift floor through Karatu before the crater rim. Arrive early afternoon.
Full Day — Ngorongoro Crater
Early descent. Full day on the crater floor — black rhino, lion prides, flamingo, hippo pool at Ngoitokitok spring. One of the most reliably productive wildlife days in Africa regardless of season. Return to rim late afternoon.
Ngorongoro to Arusha — Departure
Morning at leisure on the rim. Drive back to Arusha (approximately three hours). Fly from Kilimanjaro International for onward connections.
