Regions & Lodging
Where you stay in the Serengeti determines what you see. Each region has a distinct character, wildlife profile, and seasonal window.
The Camp Position Principle
The most important decision in planning a Serengeti journey is not which camp you choose within a region — it is which region you base yourself in, and whether that region aligns with where the migration is during your dates.
A mid-range camp 30 minutes from the Mara River will deliver better crossing experiences than the finest luxury camp 90 minutes away. Camp quality matters. Position matters more.
Camp proximity to wildlife events trumps star ratings.
Mobile camps reposition seasonally; fixed camps do not.
Lamai area sells out 6–9 months ahead for Jul–Sep.

Central Serengeti
Seronera is the park's administrative centre and its most accessible region. It sits at the heart of the Serengeti and acts as a year-round wildlife area, making it the most appropriate choice for visitors with limited time or with travel dates that do not align precisely with migration windows.
Landscape
Open grassland mixed with riverine woodland along the Seronera River system. The river creates a permanent water source that draws wildlife throughout the year. Large fig and acacia trees provide shelter for leopards and roosting birds.
Wildlife Profile
Seronera is arguably the best year-round wildlife viewing area in the park. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, and a wide range of antelope and birdlife are all present consistently. Lion prides here are among the most studied in the world.
- › Lion prides (year-round)
- › Leopard (fig tree sightings)
- › Elephant (river areas)
- › Hippo (river pools)
- › Cheetah (open plains adjacent)
Advantages
- + Most consistent wildlife viewing regardless of season
- + Best area for leopard sightings in the Serengeti
- + Good road network for vehicle access
- + Wide accommodation range from mid-range to luxury
Disadvantages
- - Most visited part of the park, vehicle density can be high around kills
- - Not positioned for river crossings or peak calving
